This poem is dedicated to my dear friend, Sanjay Pant, for his exemplary contribution to standardisation and the advancement of Civil Engineering in India.

The poem highlights a very human contradiction — we know where the problem really is, but we keep looking elsewhere. Dust on the face, yet wiping the mirror. Blurred vision, yet changing the glasses. Life is short, the body mortal — and yet here we are, chasing mirages (मृगतृष्णा) through the wilderness of illusion (माया), and cutting ourselves down to fit the world's narrow frames (तंग चोखटे) — slowly strangling the very soul we believe is immortal.

But then the poem also reminds us what we actually are — "खुले आसमान का विस्तार", the vastness of open sky, a thought too large for the universe. Like Hanuman who forgot his own powers and needed Jamvant to wake him up, we too need that moment of recognition — a जामवंती अहसास — of our own forgotten greatness. The final wish is not for fame or legacy in the conventional sense, but simply to exist as a free, uncontained thought, woven into someone's song, hummed long after everything else fades. And whether the soul is truly immortal or not — the poem doesn't claim to know — but it insists on treating it as if it is.
