स्वयं से उलझना

मृत्युलोक है और मैं एक मर्त्य !

भरमाते संसार के प्रपंचों में

उलझता हूँ |

वर्तमान को भूल

भूत और भविष्य में

यायावर सा विचरता हूँ |

उलझता हूँ नाहक ही सबसे-

सुलझने को स्वयं से |

उलझनें परंतु और उलझ जाती हैं |

समय की लंबी होती परछाइयों में

और सघन हो जाती हैं |

मन के अनजान कोनों में

चेतना के तंतुओं को जकड़ बैठती हैं |

थके शरीर और उनींदी आँखों में

अंतहीन रात-सी

अक्सर ठहर जाती हैं |

स्वयं को सुलझाने के लिए-

किसी और से नहीं

स्वयं से ही उलझना

मन की गिरहों को ढीला करना

और कुछ भूलने का प्रयास करना

हो या न हो

पर श्रेयस्कर लगता है |

उम्र के इस ढलान पर

याददाश्त कमज़ोर होने लगी है

कुछ-कुछ भूलने भी लगा हूँ

स्वयं से अब कुछ कम

उलझने लगा हूँ |

शायद अब कुछ ठीक करने लगा हूँ |

मर्त्य- नश्वर/जिसकी मृत्यु हो सकती है, यायावर- घुम्मकड़ , चेतना के तंतुओं- चेतना के सूक्ष्म धागे/ मन बोध के महीन रेशे

Life is mortal and everyone here is passing through. The world is full of illusions, and the mind gets caught in them. We forget the present. Our thoughts drift between past and future. Needless arguments and grudges with others create tension and tangle the mind further, when what we really need is to untangle them and find peace within. But the knots only tighten. They thicken with time and hide in unknown corners of the mind, holding it in a tight grip. They settle into the tired body and the drowsy eyes, like a night that never ends.

Then comes a realisation. The answer is not to argue or fight with others, but to face oneself. The knots of the mind have to be loosened, and some things have to be forgotten. It may not always work, but it feels like the right way. Now old age has set in. Memory is fading, and some things are slipping away on their own. So the inner struggle has eased a little. The poem ends on a gentle irony: perhaps something is finally going right. Losing memory is usually a loss. Here, it becomes a kind of relief.
